Life

The family home in Warsaw, his involvement in the armed resistance and the Warsaw Uprising were life-defining experiences for Jerzy Ficowski (1924-2006). His youthful fascinations with Schulz, Leśmian, Wojtkiewicz and the Gypsy culture would remain constantly present in his writing and his life. Whether he was paying homage to Jews murdered in the Shoah, or fighting for democratic freedoms, everything he did was always as consistent as his poetry and the rest of his multi-faceted work.
